The CMR Advantage: Built for RAID
This is the most important feature for a NAS. This IronWolf drive uses Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR), not SMR. This is essential for a multi-drive RAID array. CMR drives can be written to randomly without a performance hit, making them fast and reliable when rebuilding a RAID array. (SMR drives are not suitable and can fail during a rebuild).

IronWolf drives are designed to work together. They feature Dual-Plane Balancing, which means the drive is balanced to drastically reduce the vibration and noise that can damage drives in a multi-bay NAS enclosure. This leads to a longer, more reliable life.
